The Neolithic sites of Brezhani, Drenkovo I and Drenkovo II, Southwest Bulgaria
In 2022 the team under the leadership of Dr. Grębska-Kulow wаs awarded with a grant entitled “The Neolithic Sites of Brezhani, Drenkovo I and Drenkovo II, Southwest Bulgaria” by The Shelby White and Leon Levy Program for Archaeological Publications.
Over the next two years, serious research will be conducted toward the publication of three prehistoric sites, Brezhani, Drenkovo I and Drenkovo II, which are of great importance for issues concerning the Neolithization (the introduction of a new economy based on animal husbandry and the plant cultivation) of South-eastern Europe, which occurred more than 8,000 years ago. Drenkovo I also offers interesting data on the cultural transformations which took place at the end of the Late Neolithic and beginning of the Chalcolithic (Copper Age), i.e. at the end of the 6th millennium BC.
This webpage is entirely dedicated to the project, and aims to present in a concise and accessible form, the most important elements/aspects of the project and its progress towards a series of final publications.
